Lincoln Center Theater has announced an extension and future off-Broadway transfer for Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles, a production of the the company's LCT3 development program. Directed by Daniel Aukin, the play will continue at The Duke on 42nd Street through July 9 and re-open at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre in the spring of 2012.
4000 Miles, which stars Gabriel Ebert, Greta Lee, Mary Louise Wilson and Zoe Winters, opened to critical praise at The Duke on June 20. The Newhouse production will begin performances on March 15, 2012, and open on April 2.
The play tells the story of 21 year-old Leo (Ebert) who, after losing his best friend while they were on a cross-country bike trip, seeks solace from his feisty, Communist grandmother (Mary Louise Wilson) in her West Village apartment. Herzog’s previous play, After the Revolution, which also dealt with the legacy of Communism, was produced by Playwrights Horizons in the fall of 2010.
4000 Miles features sets by Lauren Helpern, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Japhy Weideman and sound by Ryan Rumery.
Lincoln Center Theater is currently building a new 131-seat theater, rehearsal space and office complex on the roof of the Vivian Beaumont Theater (home of the Tony-winning War Horse) which will open in spring 2012 and serve as the permanent home of LCT3.
